My Personal AI Policy

I am the sole author of the content on this website. I expect everything that I publish on this site to be readable by machines, but I don’t consent to my voice, tone, and likeness to be used for commercial purposes.

I do use AI tools for a variety of purposes:

• Creating illustrations on a personal site like this isn’t feasible. I can prompt a quick idea in ChatGPT and get a reasonably good visual representation within a few iterations. That’s good enough for me. I do recognize that these tools are built on the backs of generations of artists actually working and creating. I don’t know how to square those two thoughts – though I do think that image & creative generation within all these AI platforms should be much more expensive because they should be paying far greater royalties to the creators who they’re “learning” from. I think this should get settled by real copyright courts to address and rectify. In the meantime, I am open to claims of partial or complete hypocrisy.
• I like using chat tools as another kind of sounding board for ideas. I prefer friends, colleagues, guests, or even strangers – but sometimes I just want a list of ideas to start riffing on.
• AI tools are extraordinarily helpful with writing code, queries, and technical topics. Honestly if all the innovation stopped today I think we’re left with a set of improvements to technical tools that enables good developers to be great, to let great developers offload the minutiae, and let people who have been intimidated by development get to a starting point for creating something much quicker.
